Choose Foods that Soothe Emotions: Day 3 of the Balance Weight Challenge

Healing foods that soothe anxiety.

Try eating these healthy foods to soothe feelings instead of reaching for junk food.

Anxiety: Reach for yellow/orange foods such as pineapple, cantaloupe, and sweet potato (great for quelling carb cravings–and yes, you can microwave the potato for a quick snack although I don’t recommend microwaving in general). Also cinnamon and ginger teas will help to quell anxiety by soothing the spleen/earth energies.

That cup of Bengal spice tea that I suggested on day 1 by Celestial Seasonings with just a small amount of vegetable glycerine (a natural sugar substitute that has zero calories and no chemicals) is a very soothing drink. Similarly, a cup of butternut squash soup can also soothe anxiety. Amy’s and other organic brands have wonderful “yellow” soups that are very soothing to the spleen.

Fear: Reach for deep water fish such as salmon or tuna. If you are vegan, reach for seaweed such as nori, wakame and kombu.

Sorrow and grief: Reach for cauliflower, turnips and asparagus.

Anger: Reach for any green leafy vegetables such as spinach, mustard or collard greens, romaine lettuce or kale.

Over-excitation: Reach for almonds, sesame oil or seeds and spinach.
